Culberson County, Texas

Culberson County is way out in the corner of West Texas. It’s a rock hound’s paradise. The Guadalupe Mountains rise up from the desert floor like giants. The highest point in Texas is right there at Guadalupe Peak.
Van Horn is the only real town, a pit stop for travelers on I-10. But don’t write it off. The Clark Hotel Museum has some wild west stories to tell. This place is empty. And I mean empty. You can drive for hours and not see another soul.
It’s the perfect spot for stargazing. The McDonald Observatory is nearby, and the night skies are ridiculous. Culberson has a split personality. It’s half mountainous forest, half Chihuahuan Desert. It shouldn’t work, but it does. The county is home to some of the best hiking in Texas. If you’re into geology, you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven.
