Graham County, North Carolina

Graham County is pure Appalachian beauty. Tucked away in the far western corner of North Carolina, it’s a playground for anyone who loves the outdoors. The Nantahala National Forest covers the county.
Fontana Lake was created by damming the Little Tennessee River. This lake is now the northern border and offers primo boating and fishing. Robbinsville, the only incorporated town, is small but full of character. It’s also the county seat.
The county’s remoteness has helped preserve Cherokee culture here. You can still hear the native language spoken. Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center keeps Appalachian traditions alive. Music, crafts, you name it. The Road to Nowhere is an unfinished highway project. You can find it here and is oddly beautiful.
