Oneida County, Wisconsin

Oneida County is up in the Northwoods region. It’s a land of lakes. Yep, there’s over 1,100 of them. Seriously, water’s everywhere. Minocqua, the county’s biggest town, calls itself the “Island City” because it’s surrounded by lakes. Fishing, boating, and swimming are basically required activities here.
When winter hits, things don’t slow down. Snowmobilers and cross-country skiers take over. The county has some quirky claims to fame too. Ever heard of the hodag? It’s a mythical beast that supposedly roams these parts. Rhinelander, the county seat, embraces the legend.
Oneida County is also home to a chunk of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Nature lovers, rejoice. It’s not all wilderness though. The area has a rich logging history. You can still spot some old-growth pines if you know where to look.
