Trempealeau County, Wisconsin

Trempealeau County hugs the Mississippi River in western Wisconsin. It’s a place of stunning bluffs and winding rivers. The name comes from the French “trempe à l’eau,” meaning “dip in the water”. Fitting for a county with so many waterways.
The Great River State Trail is a local favorite. Wineries cover the hillsides, taking advantage of the unique microclimate. The county is rich in Native American history. You can still see ancient effigy mounds.
Winters are cold, but the views of snow-capped bluffs are worth it. Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge is a birdwatcher’s paradise. The small towns here are friendly and laid-back.
