Carbon County is in eastern Pennsylvania. It’s a place with both history and nature. The Lehigh River cuts through it, carving out the impressive Lehigh Gorge. The county got its name from its coal deposits.
Jim Thorpe is a borough and county seat of this county. It’s formerly known as “Mauch Chunk”. But now people remember it for the burial site of Native American sports legend Jim Thorpe.
Hikers and bikers love the D&L Trail. Skiers hit the slopes at Blue Mountain in winter. Beltzville State Park has a beach in the mountains and trout fishing. It’s hard to believe you’re just a short drive from major cities. Carbon County is full of surprises.
