Childress County, Texas

Childress County sits in the southeastern corner of the Texas Panhandle. It’s cattle country and always has been. The county is named after George Childress, who wrote the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Childress is the county seat and was once a major railroad town. These days, it’s quieter. But there’s still plenty to see and do. The Fair Park Auditorium is a local landmark. So is the Childress County Heritage Museum.
If you’re passing through on Highway 287, make sure to stop. The locals are friendly. The BBQ’s amazing. And the sunsets? Out of this world.
