Colbert County, Alabama
Colbert County is up in northwest Alabama, along the Tennessee River. Tuscumbia is the county seat. The population is about 55,000. It’s where the Natchez Trace Parkway ends so it’s a nice drive if you’re not in a hurry.
Helen Keller was born here and there’s a whole festival for her each year. Muscle Shoals is in Colbert, famous for its recording studios. Lots of big names recorded here. The “Singing River” they call it.
The county is named after George and Levi Colbert, Chickasaw chiefs who lived in the area. There’s good fishing in the river if music’s not your thing. U.S. Highway 72 crosses the county, connecting it to the rest of the state.
