DeKalb County is in northern Illinois with the city of DeKalb as the central hub. Northern Illinois University calls it home, situated in DeKalb. Sycamore is the county seat.
There’s lots of farming here as corn fields surround the towns. Wind turbines are a common sight in Dekalb County. But it’s mostly high-tech jobs and agriculture mix now.
The county is known for barbed wire because it was invented here. The Egyptian Theatre is a local treasure and it still hosts shows year-round. You also can’t forget about Shabbona Lake State Park in the southwest.
