Cass County, Illinois
Cass County sits in west-central Illinois. Virginia is the county seat, which is located in the center of the county. The county is mostly flat farmland. Corn and soybeans are everywhere.
Fishing is also popular here, especially for catfish (catfish dinner). The river shaped this place and it still does. The Illinois River forms its western boundary with Beardstown on the banks of the river.
Beardstown has a famous courthouse, where Lincoln once argued a case there. The county is named after Lewis Cass but he never lived here though. Farmers and river folks make up most of the population.
