Franklin County, Texas

Franklin County is a little piece of East Texas, about 100 miles northeast of Dallas. Mount Vernon, the county seat, oozes small-town charm. Lake Cypress Springs is the jewel of the county – a favorite spot for fishing and boating.
The county is named after Benjamin C. Franklin, a judge and early settler. Not that Benjamin Franklin, mind you. But there’s confusion over it. This is dairy country so its rolling hills are covered with farms.
The Cypress Creek flows through whose banks are lined with towering trees. To say the least, it’s beautiful in the fall. The county’s home to the Franklin County Historical Museum, which does a great job preserving local history. This is small-town Texas at its finest.
