Glasscock County, Texas

Glasscock County is one of the least populous counties in Texas, right in the middle of West Texas oil country. Garden City is the only town, if you can call it that. Population? No more than 300 souls.
Oil derricks outnumber people here by a long shot. The landscape’s flat and stark, broken only by the occasional mesa. Ranching is still important, but oil and gas keep this place afloat.
You won’t find any stoplights in Glasscock County. No movie theaters either. Or restaurants. It’s about as rural as rural gets. But the people here are proud of their little slice of Texas. The county is named after George Washington Glasscock, an early settler.
