Gonzales County is in Central Texas about halfway between San Antonio and Houston. “Come and Take It!” That’s the battle cry that put Gonzales County on the map. It’s where the Texas Revolution kicked off in 1835.
The county seat, also called Gonzales, is full of historic buildings and Texas pride. Agriculture is big business, especially cattle and crops like hay and corn. The San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers cut through the county.
There is some great fishing and paddling. Palmetto State Park has camping and hiking, with its unusual mix of plant life. Folks here love their festivals. The Come and Take It Celebration is an annual festival in the county.
