Holt County, Nebraska

Holt County is up in north-central Nebraska. It’s bigger than Rhode Island, if you can believe it. It’s actually double its size, in fact.
The Niobrara River runs along its northern border. O’Neill, the county seat, calls itself the Irish Capital of Nebraska. They paint a big green shamrock right on the main street.
Ranching is big business here. The Sand Hills take up a good chunk of the county. It’s a unique landscape. Basically, it’s grass-covered dunes as far as the eye can see. Folks here are friendly, but they value their space. It’s the kind of place where a handshake still means something.
