Lawrence County is in northeast Arkansas, where the Ozark foothills meet the Delta. Basically, the county is split between rice fields in the south and rolling hills in the north.
Walnut Ridge is the county seat, which has an unexpected claim to fame. The Beatles briefly landed at its airport in 1964. It’s now commemorated by a guitar-shaped plaza.
The Spring River, popular for floating and fishing, forms part of the county’s northern border. Lake Charles State Park offers camping and water recreation. Powhatan Historic State Park preserves a 19th-century river port town.
