Mitchell County, Texas

Mitchell County lies in West Texas within the South Plains and Edwards Plateau. Colorado City, despite its name, is the county seat of this Texas county.
It’s oil country, but agriculture still plays a big role. The Colorado River cuts through, creating some unexpected greenery. Summers are hot and dry, but that doesn’t stop folks from enjoying Lake Champion.
The Mitchell County Airport hosts an annual fly-in that’s quite a spectacle. You can still see traces of the Old West here, in the architecture and the attitudes. Ruddick Park hosts baseball games and is a beautiful spot for a picnic.
