Pepin County, Wisconsin

Tiny but mighty, that’s Pepin County. It’s Wisconsin’s smallest county by land area. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in character. The county hugs the Mississippi River in western Wisconsin, next to Minnesota.
Pepin is a charming river town. It has a claim to fame too. Laura Ingalls Wilder was born here. Fans of “Little House on the Prairie” make pilgrimages to her birthplace.
The county is known for its apples. Orchards cover the hillsides. In fall, the place comes alive with color. Fishing is big on Lake Pepin, a wide spot in the Mississippi. It’s a favorite spot for sailors too.
