Prairie County stretches across the Grand Prairie region of eastern Arkansas. Des Arc serves for county seat duties. The county is known for its rice production and duck hunting.
The Mike Freeze Wattensaw Wildlife Management Area is fully in Prairie County with wildlife viewing and outdoor recreation. The annual Prairie County Fair in Hazen brings the community together each fall.
Even though it has a small population, Prairie County played a significant role in Arkansas history. The county courthouse in Des Arc is one of the oldest in the state still in use.
