Stephenson County, Illinois
Stephenson County sits in the northwest corner of Illinois, right up against the Wisconsin border. Freeport, the county seat, is known as “Pretzel City”. Yep, they’ve got a long history of pretzel-making here.
These days, manufacturing and agriculture keep the economy going. Specifically, this county is all about dairy. You’ll see more cows than people in some parts. There’s a strong German heritage so you’ll see it in the architecture and local festivals.
Winters bring snowstorms that can shut everything down. Summers are hot but not too bad. The county has some interesting history. Lincoln and Douglas had one of their famous debates here.
