US Counties

The Piney Woods of East Texas are home to Harrison County. The county seat, Marshall, was a hotbed of activity during the Civil War.

Hartley County is way up in the Texas Panhandle, bordering New Mexico. It’s cattle country, pure and simple with lots of wide open spaces.

Haskell County sits in the Rolling Plains of North Texas. It’s named after Charles Haskell. The county seat shares its name.

Hays County lies just south of Austin in the central part of Texas. It’s where the Hill Country meets the Prairie. It’s growing fast.

Hemphill County is perched way up in the northeast corner of the Texas Panhandle, bordering Oklahoma. Canadian is the county seat.

Henderson County sits in East Texas, southeast of Dallas. The county seat, Athens, calls itself the “Black-Eyed Pea Capital of the World.”

Hidalgo County is down where the Rio Grande meets Texas. It’s part of the Rio Grande Valley, right on the Mexican border.

Hill County lives up to its name. Rolling hills and limestone cliffs define this central Texas county. Hillsboro serves as the county seat.

The South Plains of West Texas are home to Hockley County. Levelland is the county seat. The name fits because it’s flat out here.

Hood County sits about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth in North Central Texas. It’s named after John Bell Hood, a Confederate general.

Hopkins County sits in northeast Texas, with Sulphur Springs as its county seat. Lots of folks come for Cooper Lake State Park.

Houston County is the third oldest county in Texas, established back in 1837. It’s located in the eastern part of the state, near Louisiana.

Howard County is out in West Texas. Big Spring is the biggest town and county seat. Oil has been a key driver of the economy here.

Hudspeth County hugs the US-Mexico border in far West Texas. It’s big, over 4,500 square miles. But only about 3,000 people call it home.

Hunt County is in northeast Texas. Greenville is the county seat in the center. The county has a mix of farmland and growing suburbs.
