Oklahoma Counties

Pittsburg County sits in southeastern Oklahoma, a land of rolling hills and dense forests. It’s one of the biggest counties in the state.

Pontotoc County is in the south-central part of Oklahoma. Ada is the county seat and is home to East Central University.

Pottawatomie County is just east of Oklahoma City. Shawnee is the biggest city and the county seat with a historic downtown area.

Pushmataha County lies deep in the heart of southeastern Oklahoma. It’s named after a Choctaw chief. Antlers is the county seat.

Roger Mills County is out in western Oklahoma, bordering Texas. Cheyenne is the county seat and it’s about as small-town as it gets.

Rogers County is perched in northeastern Oklahoma, just a stone’s throw from Tulsa. It’s growing fast. Claremore is the county seat.

Seminole County is in the central area of Oklahoma. Seminole is the biggest town but Wewoka is the county seat.

Sequoyah County hugs the Arkansas border in eastern Oklahoma. Sallisaw is the county seat and is a friendly little city with lots going on.

Stephens County is right in the heart of southern Oklahoma. Duncan, the biggest city, calls itself the “Crape Myrtle Capital”.

Texas County is way out there in the Oklahoma Panhandle. It borders Texas to the south, Kansas to the north and Colorado to the northwest.

Tillman County sits in the southwestern corner of Oklahoma, right up against the Texas border. It’s farm country with lots of wheat fields.

The beating heart of northeastern Oklahoma is Tulsa County. It’s where the old oil money meets new tech startups in Downtown Tulsa.

Wagoner County is in northeastern Oklahoma, where the prairies meet the foothills of the Ozarks. The county has ties to the Cherokee Nation.

Washington County occupies a slice of northeastern Oklahoma, bordering Kansas. Rolling hills give way to tallgrass prairie. Oil shaped here.

Western Oklahoma’s Washita County is cattle country, plain and simple. Wide open spaces dominate the landscape.
