Dawson County, Texas

Dawson County is right in the middle of the Llano Estacado. Lamesa is the county seat, a small town with a big personality. They claim to have perfected the chicken-fried steak. Who knows if it’s true, but they sure make a mean one.
It’s cotton country, pure and simple. Oil’s been good to Dawson County over the years. You can still see pump jacks bobbing up and down like giant metal birds.
The landscape is flat as a pancake, but there’s beauty in that emptiness. Sunsets here are something else. All that open sky turns into a light show every evening. Wildflowers in spring are a sight to behold.
