Desha County, Arkansas
Desha County hugs the Mississippi River in southeast Arkansas. It’s pure Delta country, with flatlands stretching far. Arkansas City, the county seat, was once a busy river port. But now it has fewer than 500 residents.
McGehee is the largest town in Desha County. It’s home to a Japanese American Internment Museum, which tells a little-known story of World War II in Arkansas.
The county is an agricultural powerhouse, producing rice, soybeans, and cotton. People here can also explore the Trusten Holder Wildlife Management Area for hunting and fishing opportunities.
