Effingham County sits right in the heart of southern Illinois. It’s where two major interstates cross, so you’ll see plenty of trucks and travelers passing through.
The city of Effingham is the biggest town. It’s hard to miss. About 34,000 people call the county home. You can really feel the German roots in some of the older towns.
Lake Sara is the go-to spot for fishing and boating when the weather’s nice. Winters drag on forever, but spring’s worth the wait. The county fair still draws big crowds every summer.
