Gillespie County, Texas

Fredericksburg is the heart of Gillespie County, sitting pretty in the Texas Hill Country. German settlers founded this place back in 1846, and that heritage is still going strong. You can see it in the architecture, taste it in the food, and hear it in the “Texas German” some old-timers still speak.
Peaches are a big deal here. Come summer, roadside stands overflow with juicy Hill Country peaches. But it’s the wineries that really put Gillespie on the map. There’s dozens of ’em dotting the countryside. Visitors love this place too.
It’s the hometown of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, and there’s a fantastic WWII museum in his honor. Nature’s a showstopper here, especially in spring when the wildflowers bloom. The Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a must-see, with its massive pink granite dome.
