Jackson County sits on the coastal plains of Texas, not far from Victoria. Edna is the county seat. Rice farming and cattle ranching are important here.
The county has a stretch of Gulf Coast shoreline. Hurricanes are always a concern. Lavaca Bay is popular for fishing and birding. You’ll see a lot of live oaks draped with Spanish moss.
The county’s been around since 1836, back in the Republic of Texas days. The county fair is a big deal every year. It’s where the coastal prairie meets the Gulf.
