Lake County, Oregon

You want remote? Come to Lake County, where the night sky puts on a show like nowhere else. It’s about as far from city life as you can get. Vast. Empty. Beautiful. Summers sizzle. Winters bite. Locals wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Outback Scenic Byway cuts through, showing you a landscape that’ll make you feel small. Lakeview, ironically, isn’t near any major lakes. Well, I guess there’s Goose Lake to the south. But it is Oregon’s highest town.
Cattle outnumber people here, and the ranching tradition runs deep. Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge is a haven for wildlife and solitude seekers. Lake County isn’t for everyone. But for those who love wide-open spaces and zero traffic lights? It’s paradise.
