New Madrid County, Missouri

New Madrid County is located down in Missouri’s Bootheel. It’s famous for the massive earthquakes of 1811-1812 that reportedly made the Mississippi River run backwards.
The river still defines life here, with levees protecting vast fields of cotton and soybeans. New Madrid, the county seat, is on Interstate 55 and along the shores of the Mississippi River.
Fishing is big business (and big fun). Winters are mild, but summer heat can be intense. Folks here are proud of their unique history and river heritage. It’s pure Delta country, with a Missouri twist.
