Newton County is deep in the Ozark Mountains of northwestern Arkansas. With a population of just over 8,000, it’s one of the most rural and rugged counties in the state.
Jasper is the county seat. This small town is known for its proximity to the Buffalo National River. The river has some of the best canoeing, hiking, and wildlife watching in the state.
Newton County is a great spot for nature lovers. The Ozark Highlands Trail runs through the county and is a favorite for serious hikers. There aren’t any major highways here, which only adds to its untouched beauty.
