Pawnee County, Kansas

Pawnee County is in central Kansas, with Larned as the biggest town. The Arkansas River runs through it, but it’s often more sand than water.
There’s a state mental hospital here that’s a big employer. Fort Larned National Historic Site is cool if you’re into Old West history.
But it’s mostly flat farmland. The Santa Fe Trail used to run through here. If you like your towns small, your Old West history, and your skies big, Pawnee County could be your spot.
