Butler County, Kansas
Butler County stretches out east of Wichita, making it a perfect escape from city life. With around 68,000 residents, it has a good mix of small towns and wide-open spaces.
The town of El Dorado struck oil in 1915, and they’ve been riding that wave ever since. If you’re a gearhead, the Kansas Oil Museum is pretty slick.
El Dorado State Park is the big draw, with a lake that’s great for boating and fishing. On summer weekends, it’s like half the county shows up to cool off and have a good time.
