Cherokee County, Kansas

Cherokee Location Map Kansas

Cherokee County hugs the Missouri and Oklahoma borders in the far southeast corner of Kansas. It’s coal country, with old mines scattered around like forgotten time capsules.

Baxter Springs plays up its Route 66 heritage, complete with a restored Phillips 66 station. The county has about 20,000 folks, many with deep roots in the area.

If you’re into Civil War history, check out the Baxter Springs Heritage Center. And don’t miss the Rainbow Bridge near Riverton, as it’s one of the last arch bridges on old Route 66.
