Polk County is in the Ouachita Mountains of western Arkansas. Mena is the county seat, which has some of the state’s most scenic areas.
The Talimena Scenic Drive starts just west of Mena. Queen Wilhelmina State Park, atop Rich Mountain, provides lodging with panoramic vistas.
The county has opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and ATV riding in the Ouachita National Forest. Mena’s historic downtown preserves its early 20th-century feel.
