El Dorado, the county seat, was once the heart of Arkansas’s oil boom. Today, it’s reinventing itself as a cultural destination with the Murphy Arts District. This includes the annual MusicFest which brings in big-name performers.
The Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources in Smackover tells the story of the area’s oil history. Lake Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge has opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing.
