Union County, Illinois

Union County is in the southern tip of Illinois, along the Mississippi to the west. It’s next to Missouri, not too far from Jackson. There are more hills here, which is a far cry from the flat cornfields up north.
Jonesboro is the county seat. It’s a small town with a lot of history. This place played a role in the Trail of Tears. You can still visit sites connected to that dark chapter.
The Shawnee National Forest covers a chunk of the county. Anna City Park is another highlight. Summers are hot and sticky, perfect for floating down the Cache River.
