Boundary County, Idaho
Boundary County is Idaho’s northernmost point, wedged between Montana, Washington and British Columbia. Bonners Ferry is the only real town. It sits in a valley carved by the Kootenai River. It’s logging county, with a side of farming.
The landscape is rugged and beautiful with dense forests, jagged peaks, and hidden lakes. Locals are used to long winters and take pride in their toughness. People value self-reliance because wildlife is everywhere. You might see a moose wandering through town.
The Kootenai Tribe has a small reservation here and runs a sturgeon hatchery. There’s a strong survivalist streak in these parts. So, hunting and fishing aren’t just hobbies, they’re a way of life. The Canadian border brings some international flavor, but it’s still deeply rural.
