Bear Lake County, Idaho
Bear Lake County sits in Idaho’s southeastern corner, right up against Utah and Wyoming. The star of the show is Bear Lake itself, a stunning turquoise body of water locals call the “Caribbean of the Rockies”. It’s split between Idaho and Utah.
Paris, the tiny county seat, has a beautiful old Mormon tabernacle that seems way too grand for such a small town. Montpelier is the biggest town, intersected by highways 89 and 30.
Ranching is still key so you’ll see plenty of cattle grazing in the valleys. The high mountain scenery is spectacular. It’s quiet here, and locals like it that way. Bear Lake County is where Idahoans go when they want to escape the “crowds” in other parts of the state.
