Kansas Counties

Miami County is in eastern Kansas, not far from Kansas City. The county seat, Paola, has a historic downtown that’s the heart of the county.

Mitchell County is right in the heart of north-central Kansas. It’s a place where agriculture rules and community pride is strong.

Montgomery County is in southeast Kansas with Independence as the county seat. It has a bit of everything – industry, farming and small towns.

Morris County is nestled in the Flint Hills of central Kansas. The county seat is Council Grove with ties to the Santa Fe Trail.

Morton County is as far southwest as you can get in Kansas without falling into Oklahoma. Elkhart is the county seat.

Head to Nemaha County in northeastern Kansas, and you’ll find a place where history and small-town life go hand in hand.

Neosho County is in southeastern Kansas. The county seat is Erie is located here. U.S. Highway 59 and U.S. Highway 169 parallel each other.

Ness County is out in west-central Kansas. It’s pretty flat around here. Farming is the main business, no surprises there.

Norton County is up in northwest Kansas.They’ve got a nice-sized lake (Keith Sebelius Lake) that’s popular for fishing and boating.

Osage County is in east-central Kansas, with Lyndon as the county seat. It has a nice mix of prairie and wooded areas, part of the Flint Hills.

Osborne County is where the Kansas plains really stretch out. This county sits in north-central Kansas, with Osborne as the main town.

Ottawa County is in north-central Kansas, with Minneapolis as the county seat (not to be confused with the one in Minnesota).

Pawnee County is in central Kansas, with Larned as the biggest town. The Arkansas River runs through it, but it’s often more sand than water.

Phillips County is up in north-central Kansas, right on the Nebraska border. Phillipsburg is the county seat and it’s pretty rural out here.

Pottawatomie County is in northeast Kansas, with Westmoreland as the county seat. It has a mix of rolling hills and farmland.
