Tennessee Counties

Johnson County is way up in the northeast corner of Tennessee. Mountain City, despite its name, is more of a small town.

Knox County is a big deal in East Tennessee. It’s home to Knoxville, the largest city in the eastern part of the state.

Lake County is in northwest corner, bordering Missouri and Kentucky. It’s the smallest county in the state. This place is all about water.

Lauderdale County hugs the Mississippi River in West Tennessee. It’s about an hour north of Memphis. Ripley is the county seat.

Lawrence County sits right in the south-central part of Tennessee, bordering Alabama. Lawrenceburg was the childhood home of Davy Crockett.

Lewis County is right in the middle of Tennessee, about halfway between Nashville and Memphis. Hohenwald is the county seat.

Lincoln County in in southern part of Middle Tennessee, right on the Alabama border. The county’s mostly rural with farmland.

Loudon County sits in East Tennessee, not far from Knoxville. The Tennessee River runs right through it and makes for some pretty views.

If you head north from Nashville, you’ll hit Macon County. It’s right on the Kentucky border. Lafayette is the county seat in the center.

Madison County is in West Tennessee, about halfway between Memphis and Nashville. Jackson is the biggest city in Madison County.

Marion County hugs the Tennessee-Alabama-Georgia border in the southeastern part of the state. The Tennessee River cuts right through.

Marshall County is just south of Nashville in Middle Tennessee. Lewisburg is the county seat. It has this beautiful town square.

Maury County is in Middle Tennessee, about an hour south of Nashville. They call Maury County the “Dimple of the Universe”.

McMinn County sits right in the heart of the Tennessee Valley. It’s in the eastern part of the state, between Knoxville and Chattanooga.

McNairy County is tucked away in the southwest corner of Tennessee. The county has a bit of everything. Farmland, forests, you name it.
