Clarke County, Alabama
Clarke County sits in southwest Alabama. Grove Hill is the county seat with about 25,000 people who call it home. The county is older than the state formed back in 1812. It was named after a Revolutionary War hero.
While the Tombigbee River runs along the west, the Alabama River runs along the east. Either side you’re on, it is good for fishing and even better for storytelling. Clarke has more tree species than any other county in Alabama. Tree huggers, rejoice!
Clarke County also has an old jail because nothing says “fun” like old jail cells. The town of Thomasville has a cool rose garden. Also, Clarke County has the Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge just west, if you’re one of those birdwatcher types.
