Crook County, Wyoming

Crook Location Map Wyoming

Crook County occupies the northeastern corner of Wyoming, named after General George Crook. This is where the first boom in Wyoming’s oil industry happened. These days, it’s quieter.

Ranching and timber are the main industries. The landscape is a mix of pine forests and rolling grasslands. Devils Tower dominates the skyline. It’s sacred to many Native American tribes. Tourists come here to see it.

Sundance, the county seat, gave the Sundance Kid his nickname. He was jailed there once. Winters are long and cold. But spring brings an explosion of wildflowers. It’s beautiful. The population is small, spread out over a big area.  Life moves at a slower pace here and that’s just how the locals like it.
