Lincoln County, Wyoming

Lincoln County is located on the western edge of Wyoming. It’s a place with snow-capped mountains in the north that give way to high desert in the south. The county’s split right down the middle by the Wyoming Range.
This creates some seriously diverse landscapes. There’s world-class fishing in the Salt River. Hiking trails crisscross the mountains. In winter, snowmobilers take over.
Kemmerer, the county seat, has a claim to fame. It’s the birthplace of J.C. Penney. Yep, that J.C. Penney. Fossil Butte National Monument is another big draw. It has some of the best preserved fossils in the world. Lincoln County might be off the beaten path, but it’s worth the trip.
