Dent County, Missouri

Dent County hunkers down in the Ozark highlands of south-central Missouri. Salem is the county seat, located off highway 68. It’s a rugged region here so outdoorsy types love it here.
Steep hills, deep hollows, and clear streams are mainly part of the terrain. The Mark Twain National Forest covers a large piece of the county in the east.
Hiking, camping, fishing. Deer and turkey hunting are huge in season. Logging and agriculture drive the economy. But tourism’s growing. Folks come to float the Current River in the summer. It’s crystal clear and spring-fed.
