Fairbanks North Star Borough is the second-largest population center in Alaska, after Anchorage. It’s in the state’s interior, far from the coast. Fairbanks, the main city, is known as “The Golden Heart of Alaska”.

The borough has about 95,000 people, with most living in or near Fairbanks. It’s home to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a major research center. Gold mining played a big role in the borough’s history and is still important today.

The area has extreme temperatures, with very cold winters and warm summers. The northern lights are often visible here, making it a popular spot for aurora viewing. The Trans-Alaska Pipeline runs through the area, bringing oil from the North Slope.
