Otero County, Colorado

Otero County is down in southeastern Colorado. La Junta is the main town, which is right on the old Santa Fe Trail. The county is pretty dry, but they irrigate a lot for farming.
Rocky Ford melons are famous. There’s a dinosaur trackway near La Junta if you’re into prehistoric stuff. Horse Creek Reservoir is good for boating and fishing.
The county has seen better days economically, but people are tough here. Comanche National Grassland is nearby for hiking, bird watching, and finding dinosaur tracks.
