Clear Creek County, Colorado
Clear Creek County is in the mountains west of Denver. It’s named after Clear Creek, which cuts through the middle. Even though it’s close to Denver, it feels pretty remote in parts. The population is small, just over 9,000.
Mining used to be huge here, and you can still see old mines dotting the hillsides. These days, tourism is the big draw. While skiing is in abundance, the Georgetown Loop Railroad has a piece of history.
Idaho Springs and Georgetown are the main towns, both old mining spots. I-70 runs right through, bringing skiers and tourists. The county is full of deep valleys and steep peaks, including Mount Evans.
