Baca County, Colorado

Baca County sits in the far southeast corner of Colorado, right where the state meets Oklahoma and Kansas. It’s mostly flat, with wide-open prairies. It’s one of the least populated counties in Colorado, with only about 3,500 people.
Springfield is the county seat, but it’s a small town like all the others here. Farming and ranching are the big industries such as wheat, cattle, and wind farms now too. The area is known for its serious weather. That includes tornadoes in spring, heat in summer, and harsh winters.
Comanche National Grassland covers a big chunk of the county, home to all sorts of prairie wildlife. The Santa Fe Trail used to run through here, and you can still see wagon ruts in some spots. Folks here are tough and proud of their rural way of life. The sunsets over the prairie are something else.
