Las Animas County, Colorado
Las Animas County is way down in southeastern Colorado. Trinidad is the county seat. It has this funky art scene going on. The county also has some serious dinosaur tracks if you are into that.
The county is huge, but most of it is pretty empty. There is a lot of ranching. The Purgatoire River Canyon is gorgeous if you can get to it. Fishers Peak, the newest state park, is here.
Las Animas County is high desert country. Pretty much, it’s dry and windswept. It is not for everyone, but if you like wide open spaces, it might surprise you.
