Prowers County is in southeastern Colorado, right on the Kansas border. Lamar is the biggest town. It’s known for its historic downtown and the annual Sand and Sage Fair.
It’s pretty flat out here. Agriculture is the main driver with lots of wheat, corn, and cattle. John Martin Reservoir and State Park is just outside the county to the west. It’s good for boating and fishing.
The county has some interesting history with the Santa Fe Trail running through it. U.S. Highway 287 runs through the county, making it a key route for travelers heading to or from the Texas Panhandle.
