US Counties

Hodgeman County sits in the heart of western Kansas in the middle of nowhere (and that’s how locals like it). Jetmore is the county seat.

Jackson County sits in northeast Kansas, not far from Topeka. The Flint Hills meet the glaciated region, which creates a unique landscape.

Jefferson County is in northeast Kansas, not far from Topeka. Oskaloosa is the county seat. It’s a mix of farmland and bedroom communities.

Jewell County is up in north-central Kansas. U.S. Highway 36 runs through the county, linking it to nearby Nebraska and other parts of Kansas.

Johnson County is Kansas’ suburban powerhouse. This region is basically a suburb of Kansas City with Overland Park as the biggest city.

Kearny County is out in western Kansas. Lakin is the county seat. The Arkansas River runs through, and so does U.S. Highway 50.

Kingman County is in south-central Kansas. Kingman is the main town. It’s mostly farmland with some oil wells scattered around.

Kiowa County is in south-central Kansas. Greensburg is the county seat. It got famous for being totally wiped out by a tornado in 2007.

Labette County is in the southeastern corner of Kansas. Oswego is the county seat, but Parsons is the biggest town with small city vibe.

Lane County is way out in western Kansas. Dighton is the only real town. It’s seriously rural. We’re talking wheat fields everywhere.

Leavenworth County is in northeast Kansas, right on the Missouri River. Leavenworth is the main city. It’s famous for the federal prison.

Lincoln County is a quiet, rural area in north-central Kansas. It’s pretty quiet out here. Like most of Kansas, farming is the main gig here.

Linn County is on the eastern edge of Kansas on the Missouri border. Mound City is the county seat and it’s mostly rural with small towns.

Logan County is out in northwest Kansas. Oakley is the county seat. It’s home to the famous Fick Fossil and History Museum.

Lyon County is in east-central Kansas part of Flint Hills. Emporia is the main city. It has a good-sized college, Emporia State University.
