Lyon County is in east-central Kansas. Emporia is the main city. It has a good-sized college, Emporia State University. The Flint Hills are nearby, so you get some nice rolling prairie.
There’s good fishing and hunting in the area. The county’s big on beef cattle. Emporia has a decent downtown with some shops and restaurants.
They host a big disc golf tournament every year if that’s your thing. U.S. Highway 50 and Interstate 35 run through the county, making it a key link between Kansas City and Wichita.
